Taziry Ecolodge & Sustainable Village
In the quiet village of El Maraky, at the foot of the Red Mountain and overlooking the Ghary Lake as well as the White Mountain, lies the Taziry Ecolodge & Sustainable Village – a sustainable refuge on the edge of the Great Sand Sea. The name Taziry means "full moon" in the language of the Siwi Berbers and is programmatic: In the 30 rooms and family chalets, candles and oil lamps provide atmospheric lighting, while solar panels ensure hot water supply, thus linking tradition with gentle technology. Built from Karshif, a mixture of clay, salt, and natural materials according to centuries-old Siwa architecture, the complex completely does without air conditioning – refreshing desert wind flows through cleverly positioned windows and doors. Taziry is more than a hotel: As part of a social project, it promotes craft courses for young people from the oasis and thus supports the preservation of traditional Siwa culture.

Rooms
The 30 rooms and family chalets of the Taziry Ecolodge are all individually designed, with palm frond-covered ceilings, Berber-inspired decoration, and furniture from the lodge's own carpentry and craft workshops. Some chalets are directly hewn into the mountain, while others overlook the natural fresh water pool of the complex. Each room has its own spacious bathroom and a private veranda. The spacious chalets are particularly suitable for three to six people, while electricity is only available in the bathrooms – candles provide atmosphere in the rooms themselves.
Culinary
The kitchen of the Taziry Ecolodge combines Moroccan flavors with Siwa specialties and consistently relies on ingredients from its own organic gardens: vegetables, fruits, olive oil, honey, eggs, and milk come directly from the lodge. A typical dinner consists of several courses with salad, Bastilla, chicken or beef, and rice – every evening in a new variation. The drinking water also comes from the lodge’s own spring. Those who wish can spend an evening dining under the open starry sky, accompanied by the light of torches and oil lamps.
Activities
Around the Taziry Ecolodge, Arabian horses await for rides through palm groves and dunes, camel excursions, and 4x4 safaris into the Great Sand Sea, as well as sandboarding on the surrounding dunes. The natural fresh water pool of the complex invites for swimming, as well as excursions to salt lakes and hot springs like Bir Wahed, just about twelve kilometers away. At night, stargazing is among the highlights, while during the day, trips to the Petrified Forest, to the Oracle Temple of Amun (about four kilometers away), or to the quiet Shiata Lake amid palm groves are worthwhile.
Location
The Taziry Ecolodge is located in the small village of El Maraky, the quietest corner of the Siwa Oasis, at the foot of the Red Mountain overlooking the Ghary Lake, the White Mountain, and the Great Sand Sea. The Oracle Temple of Amun is about four kilometers away, and the center of Siwa with the Shali Fortress and Fatnas Island is about 16 kilometers away. The hot spring Bir Wahed can be reached in about twelve kilometers. From Cairo, the drive takes about eight to nine hours via Marsa Matruh, which is why a transfer from Cairo can be organized directly through the hotel.
