About 90 minutes by car southwest of Cairo, in the village of Tunis in the Fayoum Oasis, lies the Lazib Inn Resort & Spa – a design find high above the shores of Qarun Lake. The French couple Olivier and Nanette Masson created here in 2015 a boutique resort in traditional Fayoumi architectural style from a hill full of ancient cycads, characterized by its pink facades, blue shutters, and a collection of their own artworks. Each of the roughly 20 individually designed suites tells its own story with vintage carpets, open fireplaces, and bold color accents. The roughly 20 suites of the Lazib Inn are all individually designed and decorated with pieces from the owners' private art collection. At the Blue Donkey Restaurant, the team cooks with vegetables from its own garden and fresh, locally sourced ingredients from the Fayoum region. Two pool bars invite for refreshments during the day, while in the evenings one can unwind by the open fireplace or with a glass of wine from the hotel's small wine selection.
